If you are a little unsure or are wanting a bit more information, in summary Microsoft’s SharePoint, OneDrive and Microsoft 365 are cloud-based services that help organisations share and manage content, knowledge, and applications (cloud-based services are hosted/accessed online rather than stored/managed on your property).

So, what is Microsoft 365?

In its simplest form, Microsoft 365 is a broad term (or product brand) used to encompass Microsoft’s Cloud Services and Subscription based Office software (e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook etc). Traditional single-purchase Office options are still available, but Microsoft are primarily focusing on their Subscription (365) solutions.

Note: A single-purchase Office license can seem more cost effective in the long run, but it is limited on features when compared to newer 365 (subscription) versions!

In addition to Microsoft’s new ‘subscription’ solution to Office, Microsoft 365 includes many extra services for individual users and businesses, both at an application level and also administrative level (completely able to replace in-house servers for those brave enough to take the plunge, whilst retaining the same levels of account security and management!

And whilst we could spend hours detailing all the tiers and features, the most useful for many is the Cloud storage and data management products (again, a simplification) that are part of SharePoint (and OneDrive).

SharePoint (in its simplest form) is used by businesses as a secure place to store, organise, share, and access information from any device – all you need is a web browser (and the appropriate 365 credentials).

After logging in you’ll have access to your shared data, be able to open the documents in the browser or in your Desktop App like you would have done traditionally. This approach really suits businesses with remote users, multiple sites or those wanting to ditch physical servers.

The only caveat to switching over to “the Cloud” for your Data storage (e.g. SharePoint) is that a reliable and fast internet connection is critical as your data is continuously being uploaded to and downloaded from the online repository!

OneDrive, like SharePoint, is a Cloud based storage solution, and whilst it does allow file sharing it is more of a personal product than a business-wide data sharing solution, but it does have some useful features…

Although OneDrive can be used exclusively online, its best feature is that through its Desktop App, you can seamlessly synchronise your data on your computer(s) with your data in your online OneDrive, allowing for immediate access anywhere online, and also offline!

In truth, we’ve only touched the surface of what Microsoft 365, SharePoint and even OneDrive can do, but hopefully the above gives you an idea… If you would like more information or have some questions about specific features, contact one of our Heroes today and we’ll tell you everything you need to know – for information on prices, take a look below…

Un-Managed or Managed Licenses? What’s the difference?

We offer two different prices for each product – an Un-Managed and a Managed option… If you have experience with Microsoft’s 365 Admin portal and Microsoft Tenant(s), then you may prefer to manage the license yourself. If, however, you have not had any experience with the Microsoft 365 Admin Portal or Microsoft Tenant(s) or would prefer both initial and ongoing assistance Managing your Microsoft 365 Licenses, Admin Portal, Domain setup, Microsoft Exchange Management, User Access and Account configurations, then we would recommend choosing our Managed solutions.
